Energy Laws and Environmental Technologies

Bismuth Associés have been involved in innovative areas of law right from the start. Thus the cabinet has in particular gained recognised experience in Intellectual Property, Information Technology and Communication and in Health and Biotechnology law. Working with this many disciplines also requires skills in public and private law.

Today, by taking an interest in sustainable growth, in complete compliance with the already well established domains of expertise that the cabinet has practised for a long time previously, Bismuth Associés have created an Energy Law and New Environmental Technologies Law department.

The areas of activity the cabinet's lawyers at the heart of this new department will concern themselves with are as much in renewable energies (biomass, solar and wind energies), as in non-renewables (nuclear, oil, gas, electricity…), and in their methods of extraction through the use of new environmental technologies. The question of public and environmental health being at stake as well as that of legal security for companies, who must now face up to new obligations so that they and their leaders are not held liable, are also of central importance (environmental health and social impact of new technologies, organic pollutants, product safety, growth risk, precautionary principles put in place…).

Bismuth Associés legally and strategically advise on the introduction of projects by companies developing their strategy based on sustainable growth. The cabinet helps public and private decision-makers in procedures for planning, obtaining authorisations and in the construction and usage of passive and positive energy structures but also in the negotiation and writing of the basic conventions for these projects.

Furthermore, the cabinet's multi-disciplinary strengths in energy, environmental and health risks, in connection with their international partners (the Fasken Martinau cabinet, leaders in environmental law in Montreal) assist and represent their clients before specialised professional bodies and commissions.
